Types of CSAN™ Sanitation Products Offered by Bell Chem

Bell Chem’s extensive list of CSANTM sanitation products fills the needs of almost every business requiring chemicals, from a small bakery to an industrial warehouse. CSAN covers it all in cleanliness, and Bell Chem ensures your business has the ultimate chemical for the job, including cleaners, detergents, and sanitizers. For factories, warehouses, and other industrial settings, CSAN also has conveyor and chain lubricants.

First, let’s discuss the differences among cleaners, detergents, and sanitizers.

General purpose cleaners

A general purpose cleaner is effective anywhere and removes grease, stains, and debris. However, if the area you are cleaning has small nooks and crannies or the surface is close to vertical, a general purpose cleaner may not be as effective as another type of CSAN cleaner.

Foaming cleaners

Flat surfaces sprayed with a general purpose cleaner can be wiped clean after a few minutes. Spraying any surface affected by gravity, though, causes the cleaner to slowly bleed downward. Any surface where a general purpose cleaner needs more viscosity appreciates a foaming cleaner instead. With the ability to cling to a convoluted surface and remain in place for more than a few seconds, foaming cleaners stand ahead of the rest.

Alkaline cleaners

Proteins from food sources in a factory or any bodily fluids in a hospital are better handled with an alkaline cleaner. Formulated to quickly break apart fats, oils, and proteins so they can be whisked away, alkaline cleaners are a must for many settings.

Chlorinated detergents

Detergents are designed to eradicate pathogens, from bacteria to viruses. With the added power of chlorine, the pH creates an environment where biologic life cannot survive. Chlorine also has the advantage of bleaching surfaces to a bright, crisp white.

These cleaners have the added power of a surfactant to break down large drops of oil into smaller, more manageable droplets. They are a good solution for soft surfaces where a harsher chemical may stain or mar the material.

Acid detergents

Acids are negatively charged molecules that naturally attract the positively charged particles often considered “dirt.” As the two opposing forces combine, the large particle breaks apart chemically and the detergent is able to penetrate even deeper into the debris to remove all particles layer by layer. Acid detergents are often used in wastewater treatment facilities to remove scaling and other inorganic deposits. Flooring such as vinyl, tile, and carpet are cleaned and disinfected with acid detergents.

Sanitizers

While a detergent is good at removing pathogens, a sanitizer is excellent. Most microbes encountering a sanitizer are reduced by 99.9%, making a sanitizer a necessity for food work surfaces, restaurants, hospitals, and high-touch areas. Sanitizers are the icing on the cake, utilized after a surface is cleaned and a detergent is applied.

Many sanitizers are considered “generally regarded as safe” (GRAS) and are often sprayed directly on foods. Carefully read the MSD sheets for sanitizers because they are specifically formulated to eradicate a specific type of microorganisms; choose the sanitizer best suited for your use.

The correct procedure for prepping or shutting down an area is to clear it of large particulate matter, clean it thoroughly with a cleaner, rinse with water, apply a detergent, rinse with hot water, spray on a sanitizer, and allow the surface to air dry.

Conveyor and chain lubricants

The machinery in your building should be properly maintained to last longer with few problems. Conveyor and chain lubricants play a key role in this endeavor, saving time and money by decreasing the amount of friction between the metal joints of your equipment.

When equipment runs smoothly, your employees are working rather than waiting on equipment to be repaired, which saves a huge amount of time and money. Conveyor and chain lubricants can be specifically formulated to meet the needs of your business, whether you require high heat formulations or a blend for high humidity or moisture, for instance.

Benefits of CSAN Cleaners for Food Manufacturing Equipment

Whether you’re looking at a convoluted piece of industrial equipment or a slick surface to be considered safe for the creation or distribution of foods and beverages, it must meet stringent guidelines. Bell Chem, your industrial chemical supplier, proudly carries CSAN® cleaning supplies to exceed those guidelines.

Cleaners

In order to properly disinfect a surface from contaminants, it must first be cleaned. Bell Chem has 3 categories of CSAN cleaners: general purpose, foaming, and alkaline. While all are very effective, they have different properties to give them the ultimate cleaning power depending on the circumstances. All-purpose cleaners are ready to work on any surface. They are formulated to be gentle to most surfaces while maintaining enough strength to remove grease, debris (both micro- and macroscopic), and stains.

Many particulate products within the food industry are eradicated from surfaces with alkaline cleaners. These include fats and oils as well as proteins. It is vitally necessary to clear all material encrusted on any surface to ensure disinfectants work properly. Sometimes, though, the surface to be cleaned is not a sheet of metal, but an intricate piece of machinery with nooks and crannies, protrusions and sharp points. Foaming CSAN cleaners fill this niche with their ability to cling as they clean, breaking down buildup to be quickly washed away.

Detergents

Many cleaners contain detergents as a one-two punch as they clean and sanitize an area. Detergents are biocides, killing bacteria, viruses, spores, and other microbial life, and they are also surfactants, breaking the surface tension of liquids to allow the cleaning or sanitizing properties of the product to work efficiently CSAN acid detergents decrease the pH of surfaces, which creates an inhospitable environment for the majority of biologic life. CSAN chlorinated detergent is a form of an acid detergent and is often the choice for food prep areas.

Sanitizers

Once a surface is free of buildup, a sanitizer ensures bacteria on the surface are reduced by 99.9%. Therefore, many sanitizers are used after detergents and cleaners are applied. Most food prep areas are thoroughly sanitized before any product comes in contact with the surface. Both cleaners and sanitizers may be formulated to be applied directly on some foods to reduce the amount of microorganisms in or on the foods. Not all sanitizers are created equally: while one sanitizer may be designed to eradicate one type of organism, a second may destroy another.

To effectively clean and sanitize, it is recommended to clean an area first by removing large particulate matter, then applying a cleaner to remove any foreign material. After this step, rinse the area and apply a detergent. Rinse off the detergent with hot water and apply a sanitizer. To complete the process, allow the surface or equipment to air dry.

Csan™ Sanitation Chemicals at Bell Chem

The Daytona Beach chemical supplier, Bell Chem, offers CsanTM sanitation chemicals to provide our customers with the ultimate in sanitation products. Read below for a list of Csan sanitation chemicals your company may require depending on your need.

  • General purpose cleaners – Used to remove dirt, dust, stains, and odors, general purpose cleaners may take on a liquid, granulated, powder, or spray form. While some general purpose cleaners kill bacteria, others may not.
  • Chlorinated detergents – These chemicals kill bacteria, molds, and yeasts as they disinfect and bleach. Used primarily in food preparation areas or other locations where the threat of vegetative bacteria are present, chlorinated detergents disinfect as they sterilize. From bleaching wood pulp to killing weeds, chlorinated detergents have a variety of uses.
  • Foaming cleaners – Normal spray cleaners are not able to cling to surfaces as readily as foaming cleaners. Foaming cleaners are effective in the removal of fat, protein-based stains, food soil, and other residues on surfaces in the food processing industry. Foaming cleaners adhere more thoroughly to vertical or inverted surfaces to better clean these difficult-to-reach areas.
  • Alkaline cleaners – With strong bases as their cleaning agent, alkaline cleaners dissolve fat, grease, oil, and protein-based substances. Alkaline cleaners are often paired with dispersants to prevent the redeposition of chelants and dissolved soil.
  • Acid Degreasers – Oils and other soils are no match for the chemical reactions of acid degreasers. Used on non-organic deposits, acid degreasers prevent scaling, remove calcium deposits, and dissolve grease and proteins.
  • Sanitizer –  Cleaners differ from sanitizers in that sanitizers are able to clean while they disinfect. Used in areas where bacteria and viruses are an issue – hospitals, dental offices and surgery centers, food prep areas, and bathrooms – sanitizers destroy most microorganisms with their antimicrobial properties by destroying the cell walls of microbes and interfering with their metabolism.

Csan sanitation chemicals can be used in all industries demanding sanitary conditions. Demand the best; contact the Daytona Beach chemical supplier, Bell Chem, today at 407-339-BELL (407-339-2355) to learn more about our Csan line of sanitation chemicals.
